What the journey looks like, step by step.
New Mexico's End-of-Life Options Act is one of the most accessible in the country. Here's how it unfolds — and everything we carry for you along the way.
Reach out
A free, confidential phone call. We answer your questions and explain all your options, including palliative care and hospice. No pressure, ever.
Confirm eligibility
Two qualified New Mexico clinicians — at least one a physician — confirm your terminal prognosis, your capacity to decide, and your ability to self-administer. Only one formal request is required.
Prescribe & prepare
Your clinician writes the prescription. A compounding pharmacy prepares the medication after a 48-hour waiting period (which can be shortened if time is very short).
When you choose
You decide whether and when to take the medication — at home, on your terms. Many people find peace simply in having the choice. You are never obligated to use it.
You focus on your family. We carry the logistics.
Finding clinicians
Not every doctor participates. We connect you with qualified, compassionate New Mexico clinicians — by telehealth anywhere in the state, or in person.
Paperwork & reporting
We manage the required documentation and the state reporting so nothing falls through the cracks in a difficult time.
Pharmacy & timing
We coordinate the compounding pharmacy, the 48-hour clock, delivery, and clear instructions for safe handling.
Capacity evaluation
When helpful or needed, an independent evaluation confirms decision-making capacity — a protection for you and your family.
Presence, if you wish
A trained companion can be with you and your family on the day, so no one has to hold it alone.
Support afterward
Grief and bereavement resources for the people you love, in the weeks and months that follow.
Timing, honestly
From first call to prescription can be a matter of days once eligibility is confirmed — New Mexico's single-request and 48-hour rules make it faster than most states. But everyone's situation differs. The sooner you reach out, the more room there is to do this gently and well.
